TDA VisitPreneur Mengunjungi Cloth By Medina

Membersamai program TDA Bali bernama TDA Visitpreneur, para anggota TDA Bali yang punya kesempatan waktu luang bisa mengunjungi unit bisnis milik Bapak Eko Yulianto ‘ Ibu Carina Yulianto. Cloth By Medina Nama Brand nya.

Berlokasi di Tegalalang, Kabupaten Gianyar – Bali, perjalanan para anggota TDA Bali dimulai dari kantor BOC Indonesia, unit bisnis milik Ketua TDA Bali, Bapak Hendra W Saputro.
Dua mobil beriringan terlebih dahulu menuju kampus pariwisata BETA, unit bisnis milik Bapak Irman Lesmana.

* Merchandising & Penetrasi Pasar Retail

Salah satu idealisme nya adalah menjadikan bisnis nya berkah, B|A|R|O|K|A|H bermanfaat bagi sesama.

“The Price is not important! Produk itu harus jualan sendiri. Retail tidak perlu takut harga. Yang penting produk itu harus punya value bagi market”, pungkas Bapak Eko.

Terima kasih Bapak Eko Yulianto.
Green Kubu namanya. Lagi-lagi Bapak Eko tidak habis-habis nya berbagi. Semua nya ditraktir! God Bless You Bapak Eko!

ARE YOU BEING AFFECTED BY VOG?

Source article credit to : https://www.facebook.com/TaksuUbudBali/posts/1853938157968691

Mount Agung as Bali Most Beautiful & The Best Point of Inters

If you are feeling a bit under the weather then you may be experiencing symptoms of VOG or Volcanic Smog. VOG forms when a volcano erupts and releases gases into the atmosphere.

Mount Agung Volcanoes release plumes of ash, dust, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and other harmful gases into the air. Sulfur dioxide is the most harmful of these gases. When the gases react with oxygen, moisture, and sunlight in the atmosphere, volcanic smog forms. This smog is a type of air pollution.

Volcanic smog also contains highly acidic aerosols (tiny particles and droplets), mainly sulfuric acid and other sulfur-related compounds. These aerosols are small enough to be breathed deep into the lungs.

Breathing in volcanic smog irritates the lungs and mucous membranes. It can affect how well your lungs work. Volcanic smog may also affect your immune system.

Symptoms of volcanic smog exposure include:
Breathing problems, shortness of breath.
Coughing.
Flu-like symptoms.
Headaches.
Lack of energy.
More mucus production.
Sore throat.
Watery, irritated eyes.

Vog is unpleasant to anyone and can produce headaches as well as irritation to the lungs and eyes at higher concentrations.

For people with asthma and other respiratory problems, the effects are much more serious, causing a tightening of the airways in the lungs and making it very difficult to breathe.

Studies are being done to learn the long-term effects of Vog but, to date, there’s been no clear evidence that Vog causes lingering damage to normally healthy individuals.

TAKSU TIPS TO PROTECT AGAINST VOLCANIC SMOG
(From our friends and wellness associates in Hawaii and other volcanically active locations.)

If you already have breathing problems, taking these steps can prevent your breathing from getting worse when you are exposed to volcanic smog:

Stay indoors as much as possible. People who have lung conditions should limit physical activity outdoors. Keep windows and doors closed and the air conditioning on. Using an air cleaner/purifier can also help.

If you must be outdoors, the first rule is “listen to your body”: if you find yourself being fatigued quickly, reduce your level of activity; if you start to have difficulty breathing, then it’s essential that you move to an area that is free of the irritating vog; if your symptoms don’t improve, then get medical assistance ASAP.

When you do have to go outside, wear an N95 rated mask that covers your nose and mouth.

There are specialty masks with filter cartridges that remove both dust and acid gases as well as organic vapors however they are not readily available in Bali so baking soda is the next best option.

Wet the mask with a solution of baking soda and water to further protect your lungs. The baking soda will neutralize the sulfur compounds and the moisture will help remove particles from the air. It is most effective when kept damp so a small spray bottle with clean water is helpful to carry with you.

In Hawaii a local remedy includes hanging up sheets that have been soaked In a mixture of one teaspoon of baking soda to one liter of water (which can help trap acid aerosols and gases.)

Do not smoke. Smoking can irritate your lungs even more.

Drink a lot of fluids!! If your body is hydrated your respiratory system will be better able to deflect irritants. Warm fluids such as green and black caffeinated teas contain theophyliine – a bronchial dilator – that will help open bronchial passages. Warm water with lemon juice and ginger will assist in cleansing mucus from the system. Warm water with a pinch of sea salt and lemon juice will help to make the water more absorbable.

Magnesium is great for a whole lot of things, and it also happens to be a natural bronchodilator. Bronchodilators are agents that relax your bronchioles, tiny breathing tubes inside of your lungs. Magnesium can be taken internally as Magneisum Sulfate (also known as Epson salt) or preferably however it does have a laxative effect and should be used wisely and with discretion. Magnesium Ascorbate is preferable for internal use if available. Magnesium oil (Magnesium Chloride) is very effective when used on the skin for transdermal absorbtion. We have several Magnesium Oil massages and reflexology services at Taksu which are intended for deep relaxation and stress reduction however with current vog conditions they can be beneficial for supporting healthy respiratory functions.

Eating fresh pineapple which naturally contains the enzyme bromelain can assist in balancing histamine levels.

For people with Asthma and COPD:
Take your COPD or asthma medicines as prescribed.
Bend forward at the waist slightly to make it easier to breathe.
Practice breathing exercises indoors to keep your lungs as healthy as possible. With your lips almost closed, breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. This is called pursed-lip breathing. Or, breathe deeply through your nose into your belly without moving your chest. This is called diaphragmatic breathing.

Stay Safe, be prepared, stay healthy!

Information of Dying Our Fabric

Information for Dying Our Fabric Cloth By Medina

Firstly, all the plant matter is collected from various tree’s growing on the land where they are
grown organically and without very little intervention from man. Once the plant matter has been selectively collected, it is then taken to the factory where it is then spread out on the ground, to dry
in the sun. Once the plant matter is very dry, which can take up to a week or two, depending on the weather conditions, hopefully, the sun is hot and shining. The plant matter is then put through a mulching machine, this hand driven machine which breaks up the fibers, and from there it goes into big vats were it is then boiled and stirred for up to 10 hours.
This process releases the resins and the color from the plant matter.
Now the colors are ready to be used in the dying process.

Once the fabric’s are dyed they then undergo another treatment, with a mordant and this assists the colors to be set into the fabric. After the fabric is dyed the excess water then goes through a totally organic water treatment using water hyacinth. Once it has been treated to remove any unwanted resin’s etc, the water is so clean and healthy that it is able to go back and be used in the rice fields.
Using natural plant matter for dying is not like a commercial chemical dye, the color is much more sensitive and needs to be treated with more care. As one would with a silk shirt or a piece of cashmere clothing.

Our cloth Bali soft furnishings products still produced using a semi-modern & traditional technic to achieve a unique character for every piece.

Care Instructions
We suggest when washing the plant dyed fabric’s, to put them in an old pillowcase,
then into the washing machine, with cool water and a mild soap powder or liquid.
Once washed, spin only for a short time, then place the fabric outside, but not in direct sunlight.
Composition 100% cotton

Plants and their color properties
The color Red used for CLOTH fabric’s derives from the “Secang Tree”…..or the Biancaea Sappan
tree were we use the bark only to achieve the color.
This tree is native to South East Asia.
The color Indigo comes from the Tarum Tree, were we use the leaves of the tree
to achieve the intensity of deep blue.
The color Black and Charcoal derive from the same Ketapang tree / Red Almond Tree,
but it is the leaf that gives the color. The black is placed in the dying vat for a longer period of time than the charcoal color.

Greenery in Soft Furnishing Merchandising

A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.

Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront – it is an omnipresent hue around the world.

A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.

Responsibly Produce Products

Responsible production planning.

Responsible production involves the production of goods and services in an ethical way which involves the minimisation of waste and pollution. In the past little thought was given to the way in which resources were used in the production process. The emphasis was on creating the maximum profit from resources available.

At #Cloth by Medina we are proud that we can provide such wide variety of products with responsibly produce production plan. https://www.facebook.com/clothbymedina/

Natural TieDye Range

As part of our CLOTH philosophy is to realise that products with environmentally friendly materials, sustainable, solid creations, with added value and local content is own a unique and strong hold in the boutique market place.
Starting 2014 Cloth trying to source some of local producer that use Natural TieDye Technique, finally we found some very eager local artisan that use the sustainability technique with minimum impact to environment.

The leaves are the only source of color for example color of indigo from tarum leaf, red from secang wood, yellow from mango leaf, brown from mahogany leaf, black from ketapang leaf and many more. Some of the advantages to using leaves as a coloring agent are:

  • Do not need to cut or kill the trees, harvesting multiple times
  • Trees benefit from pruning reducing leaves during some periods of time
  • Relatively easy to find, cultivate or can be in cooperation with farmers (for example)
  • Does not compete with food needs
  • Extracts are easy to make
  • Leaf waste is easily composted and returned to the soil
  • Raw material are a sustainable supply and can readily be replanted

Preparation of the materials include gathering, drying and cooking leaves to create dye extracts, usually 4-5 hours per batch.
Now the producer has its own garden in Tampak siring – Ubud to produce natural materials for dyeing, such as wood, leaves, fruits and flowers.

Cloth and the producer is promoting buyer / partner employment with the concept of “Green” environmentally friendly in marketing its products. This will create a new market and a different approach.

Cloth code of ethic and commitment to environmental responsible to picked Natural Tie dying techniques is a must, even though the production may have result in colour variances. These matters are accepted and appreciated by our loyal growing local & international audience of ‘Green’ buyers.

Every 210 days the Balinese religious holidays of Galungan and Kuningan recur, pegged to the ‘pawukon’ calendar. There has been a lot of conjecture which has made its way into mainstream literature on the subject presented as “fact” but some of it just doesn’t hold up to closer examination. Retail Therapy by CLOTH BY MEDINA

IKAT CUSHION COVERS AT CLOTH BY MEDINA

IKAT CUSHION COVERS AT CLOTH BY MEDINA

20/01/16

Retail Therapy January 20, Bali Advertiser

Over Christmas & New Year the roads were crazy and now they are pretty quiet, what’s happened?

Well, It’s the low season now, the road works are all but finished and the rains haven’t arrived?!

However, it’s this time of year to re-group and work out a plan – a plan to carry us on throughout the year…(that’s if you haven’t made a plan yet) everyone is talking, Moderation and Balance, these are good words to start with, so stay on the path and don’t do astray…. Moderation and Balance in all things for 2016!

Now the year has started and all one can see are empty shops, a number have closed and more to come I hear, never fear, more will take their place, although, perhaps not this year? one would have to agree that over the past years, there has been a build up of just too many shops, all selling the same type of merchandise which is not what we want to see, too many shops, too much the same. Believe 2016 will be a year of ‘leveling out’ too much excess, too much of everything, let’s pull back and re-think what we are doing.

Certainly in retail there’s a handful of outstanding fashion stores and the same with furniture and home product and that’s about it!! Some retailers continue at working hard to bring excitement to their stores and many others are frankly lackluster. I feel for the visitors to our island, there is not enough unique merchandise that gives them a reason to ‘buy’. Some years ago it was much more exciting, both in the look of the stores (inside and out) and their offering (fashion or home product) There is just too much mediocre product around that simply doesn’t warrant getting cash out of the purse!

So, we just wait to see what newness comes about meanwhile for an injection of retail therapy you get yourself up to Ubud, this town is rocking along beautifully! (apart from those dreadful buses that overcrowd the streets!) more and more of the better Seminyak stores have appeared which makes for a good shopping day out. But what is nice is that there are more artisans here, tucked in little shops making craft and plying their trade, this should be encouraged!

And don’t forget to venture out to other village areas surrounding Ubud town, this is where you will find special items that you can incorporate into your home, drive down the main road through Mas

and you will see for yourself, all the way to Sukawati.

And the other way up Andong Road, going north of Ubud, where you’ll see a plethora of small artisan shops on both sides of the road, for miles and miles!!

Speaking of which, one of my faves (which actually isn’t ‘a hole in the wall’ but a proper shop. CLOTH by Medina, Andong Rd, (on the right side of road not too far up, just drive slowly, parking at front, where there are trees! (www.clothbymedina.com) The owner is a delightful Australian named Carina and she sure knows her business, just to visit her shop is a joy. The merchandise is unique, the color blocking is great, her props instore are perfect, settings will give you lots of ideas for your home and the best point to note is that her product is crafted by artisans in villages; dyeing, spinning, making, sewing and the rest, now Carina is a real professional and it shows, she wins my vote for excellence in retail!

In fact, it’s becoming very apparent that the best product is by the clever artisans in Bali, let’s remember that Bali is the home of ‘handicraft’ but it’s taken on new meaning in recent years (I am not referring to the product in vast caverns like Oleh Oleh or similar haunts!) I mean exquisite quality hand crafted designer product that is made here from ceramics, wood, glass, artworks, fashion, leather, home product often exported to smart cities of the world…..

Let’s support the terrific Artisans in Bali is my motto for 2016!

Cloth Retail Shop – Bali

Cloth is a Balinese Retail Shop based in Ubud – Indonesia, established in 2014 by Eko & Carina Yulianto.
We design and make Traditional, contemporary furnishing fabric for the home and boutique interiors.
The majority of our work is created by hand as flat bed screen printed yardage fabric using short batch production processes and natural base cloths.
Our designs are handwoven on traditional loom, embroidered by machines.

We produce short runs which are not repeated and this makes them individual not mass produced.

We design these pieces as fusion of East meets West, contemporary blends with traditional.

Aubergine & White

“Aubergine on the fabric conveys a sense of deep space. It’s expansive and tonally rich.

Then I’d be audacious and mix it with an equally provocative trim color like this White. It might be too much for some energetic type of person bedroom or a living room.
but definately it will work on romantic and creative idealistic person .”
